About Lille

Lille is the largest city in northern France. It is located near the Belgian border, closely to many major European cities: Paris, London, Brussels, Amsterdam.

Conference Location

The conference will be hosted at Lilliad, the learning center of the University of Lille, located in Cité scientifique, one of the campuses of the University (map). The campus is located in Villeneuve d'Ascq, one of Lille's neighboring cities; from downtown Lille, the campus can be accessed by public transportation in about 20 minutes.

Accomodation

If you want to enjoy the city, you may choose to stay at one of the many hotels in downtown Lille. If you pick this option, the subway will take you from and to the conference in about 20 minutes.

If you prefer to stay close to the conference site, you may choose one of the hotels located around the campus. Four hotels are located within walking distance of the conference site. One is located on the campus (a 5-minute walk from the conference venue), the others are located nearby the Pierre Mauroy stadium (a 15-minute walk from the conference venue).

Travelling to Lille

By air

The closest airport is Lille-Lesquin airport. It offers flight from and to a number of countries in Europe and North Africa: France, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Portugal, Greece, Turkey, Morroco, Algeria, and Tunisia. From the airport, a shuttle will take you to Lille Flandres train station (in downtown Lille) in about 20 minutes; the fare is €8 for a one-way ticket and €10 for a round trip.

If Lille-Lesquin airport does not connect to your country, the second best option is probably Charles-de-Gaulle (Roissy) airport, France's largest airport, located to the north of Paris. It serves most countries. A train line directly connects the airport to Lille; it will take you to one of Lille's train stations in about one hour.

Other options include the Belgian airports located near Lille : Brussels airport and Charleroi airport.

By train

Lille has two major train stations, gare Lille Flandres and gare Lille Europe, located within a five minute walk from each other, and within walking distance from downtown Lille.

Train is probably the most convenient way to reach Lille if you travel from France, Belgium (30 minutes from Brussel-Zuid/Bruxelles-midi), The Netherlands (about 3 hours from Amsterdam-Centraal), or The UK (1h30 from London-St Pancras).

Visa

You may need a visa to come to France. France-visas is the official website for visa information and application. If you need a letter of invitation to apply for a visa, please see here how to get one from the conference organizers.

Reaching the Conference
